Why Washington books need a Washington calendar

Clean books are only useful if they line up with what the state expects. Washington has a 6.5% state sales tax (about 9.51% combined with local rates), no personal income tax and an annual report of $70, due Annual, end of anniversary month. We build the chart of accounts and the month-end checklist around those facts, so the numbers are ready for whichever return comes next.

    • Monthly profit and loss, balance sheet and cash summary
    • CPA review of the close before reports go out

    • Payroll, invoicing and bill tracking on the Growth and Enterprise plans

What we watch for Washington clients

Washington has no income tax at all, personal or corporate. Instead it taxes gross receipts through the Business and Occupation tax, which means a business can owe B&O tax in a year it made no profit. Sales tax nexus is also easy to trigger for remote sellers.

Sales tax is the usual trouble spot. Washington's a 6.5% state sales tax (about 9.51% combined with local rates) has to be tracked as a liability, not income, and remote sellers cross Washington nexus faster than they expect. Owner draws, loans between related entities and uncategorised transactions are the other three things we clean up most often. Nobody did anything wrong; there was simply never a monthly close.

    Washington questions people ask first

Do you handle Washington sales tax?

Yes. We track Washington sales tax as a liability in the books, reconcile it to what was collected, and file the returns as an add-on at $50 per state per month.

Do I keep my own QuickBooks or Xero subscription?

Yes. You own the file; we work inside it with accountant-level access, so you can see everything at any time.

    Who does the work?

A dedicated bookkeeper on our Mumbai team does the daily and monthly work. A CPA in the team reviews the month-end close before reports go out.

Can you fix a messy file?

Yes. Clean-up and catch-up are quoted as a fixed project first, then you move to a monthly plan. Typical turnaround is two to four weeks.

Will the books be ready for my Washington and federal returns?

That is the point of the monthly close. Year-end financials are tax-ready, and we can prepare the business return itself from $99.

    How fast do you reply?

Within 8 hours, by email or phone, with one point of contact.
