The Washington numbers a CFO has to know
Forecasts are only as good as the tax and fee assumptions inside them. In Washington that means no personal income tax, a gross-receipts tax instead of a corporate income tax, a 6.5% state sales tax (about 9.51% combined with local rates) and an annual report of $70, due Annual, end of anniversary month. We build those into the model so the cash forecast survives contact with April.
| Washington at a glance | What applies | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Personal income tax | No personal income tax | No personal income tax (Washington taxes long-term capital gains above $270,000 at 7%) |
| Corporate income tax | A gross-receipts tax instead of a corporate income tax | No income tax; Business and Occupation tax on gross receipts (0.471% retailing, 1.5% to 1.75% services and other activities) |
| Sales tax | A 6.5% state sales tax (about 9.51% combined with local rates) | Combined figure is the population-weighted average with local rates (2026 table) |
| LLC fees | Formation $200; An annual report of $70, due Annual, end of anniversary month | Initial report due within 120 days of formation; annual report thereafter |
| Corporation fees | Formation $180; Annual report $70, due Anniversary month | B&O tax applies to receipts, no income tax |
| S-corp election | Federal election recognised | No income tax at any level; B&O tax applies to the entity regardless of S status |
Figures checked 2026-09 against Washington Department of Revenue and Washington Secretary of State. Rates and fees change; we confirm the current numbers for your entity before we quote.

What Washington changes in the model
Washington has no income tax at all, personal or corporate. Instead it taxes gross receipts through the Business and Occupation tax, which means a business can owe B&O tax in a year it made no profit. Sales tax nexus is also easy to trigger for remote sellers.
Entity-level charges are the ones founders forget in a forecast: an annual report of $70, due Annual, end of anniversary month, a gross-receipts tax instead of a corporate income tax and, for sellers, a 6.5% state sales tax (about 9.51% combined with local rates). We also model the owner's own tax position, because a distribution that looks affordable in the business is often not affordable once Washington and federal tax on it are counted.

Washington questions people ask first
What is the difference between bookkeeping and a virtual CFO?
Bookkeeping records what happened and closes the month. A virtual CFO uses those numbers to forecast, price, plan tax and advise on decisions. Most clients start with clean books, then add the CFO layer.
Do you replace my accountant?
We can be the whole finance function (books, tax, CFO) or work alongside an existing Washington CPA. Many CPA firms bring us in as the advisory partner for their clients.
How is Washington tax built into the forecast?
We model no personal income tax, a gross-receipts tax instead of a corporate income tax and entity fees such as an annual report of $70, due Annual, end of anniversary month, alongside federal tax and estimated payments, so the cash forecast reflects what will actually leave the bank.
Can you prepare numbers for investors or a lender?
Yes. GAAP-consistent statements, a data room checklist and the reconciliations a diligence team will ask for, prepared before they ask.
What does it cost?
Fixed monthly fee, quoted after the free call. Add-on CFO services start at $99 a month on a bookkeeping plan.
Who is on the team?
Certified Accountants, CPAs and Enrolled Agents working from New York and Mumbai, with one point of contact and replies within 8 hours.
