- Built by a team of Certified Accountants, CPAs and Enrolled Agents
- 2026 figures
- Estimate only, not advice
Federal calendar-year deadlines for 2026 with weekend shifts applied. State annual reports and franchise taxes run on their own dates; see your state page. Add every federal date to your calendar from the deadlines page.
Why entity type decides the calendar
The IRS runs two federal calendars. Pass-through entities that issue K-1s (partnerships, multi-member LLCs and S-corps) file on March 16, 2026, a month early, so their owners have the K-1 in time for April 15. Everything that reports on a personal return or a corporate return (Schedule C, Form 1120, Form 1040-NR, Form 5472 with its pro forma 1120) files on April 15 or, for non-resident individuals without US wages, June 15. Extensions push each date six months.
Dates that are not the return
- Estimated payments for owners: April 15, June 15, September 15, January 15.
- Payroll: Form 941 every quarter (April 30, July 31, November 2, February 1), Form 940 and W-2s by February 2.
- 1099-NEC to any US contractor paid $600 or more, by February 2.
- S-corp election (Form 2553) by March 16 for the current year.
- FBAR by April 15 with an automatic extension to October 15.
- State annual reports and franchise taxes on the state's own date: Delaware June 1 for LLCs and March 2 for corporations, Florida May 1, Texas May 15, and so on.
What an extension does and does not do
Form 7004 (entities) or 4868 (individuals) filed by the original due date extends the time to file, not the time to pay. Tax expected to be owed should be paid with the extension; otherwise the failure-to-pay penalty and interest run from the original date. For a foreign-owned LLC with no tax due, the extension is still worth filing, because it moves the $25,000 Form 5472 deadline to October 15.
Questions people ask
Why is the partnership deadline earlier than the personal one?
So each partner receives their Schedule K-1 before their own April 15 return. Missing March 16 penalises the partnership per partner per month, whether or not any tax is due.
I formed my LLC in 2026. When is my first return due?
For the 2026 tax year, in 2027 on the same calendar: March 15, 2027 for 1065 and 1120-S filers, April 15, 2027 for the rest. State annual reports may fall due in 2026 depending on the state.
Do non-resident owners get more time?
Individuals abroad with no US wages file Form 1040-NR by June 15 and can extend to December 15. The LLC's own Form 5472 filing stays on April 15 (October 15 on extension).
Does the finder cover my state?
It covers federal dates. State annual reports, franchise taxes and income tax returns are on your state page, and we track both calendars for clients.
Can I add these dates to my calendar?
Yes. The deadlines page has a one-click .ics file with every federal date and the common state dates, each with a one-week reminder.
What if I have already missed one?
File as soon as possible; penalties grow monthly and stop when the return is filed. The late filing penalty calculator shows the cost, and we prepare the return and any penalty-relief request together.
